Machiavellian is set to launch the ultimate luxury men’s sleepwear range. Its new collection of silk pyjamas is handmade in England has been created to meet the need for true luxury men's sleepwear.
They are hand made in London by the same craftsman used by Turnbull and Asser of Jermyn Street, with silk printed on the banks of Lake Como by one of Italy’s most prestigious print houses.
Machiavellian is led by experienced menswear designer Steven Young who has been involved in luxury fashion for over 14 years since interning at Alexander McQueen (along side a young Sarah Burton) whilst still studying at St Martin's. Since then he has designed menswear for prestigious luxury brands including Burberry & Reiss.
The first Machiavellian collection combines handmade English quality and the luxury of silk with vibrant, modern design. The natural properties of silk are ideal for sleepwear keeping the wearer cool in summer and warm in winter.
Development of the new range is being funded through the Kickstarter site, which enables projects to raise money by attracting donations from supporters. Machiavellian is seeking to raise £10,000 through its Kickstarter page by 5th May in order to launch this first collection. Supporters that sign up to donate money will receive rewards ranging from exclusive first edition pyjamas to luxury handkerchiefs created from the same patterns as the sleepwear. These will be delivered from August 2013.
We were lucky enough to have a quick chat with Steven:
We really like the designs you use since they're bright and colourful and print patterns are trending right now. How did you come up with designs like that?
“I looked at how bright & colourful men's swimwear is at the moment & wanted to bring this sense of colour & fun into the dull world of men's sleepwear. Most men would like to be bolder in their choice of clothing. Machiavellian sleepwear gives them the opportunity to wear pattern & colour without feeling self-conscious.”
If this goes well could you see yourself branching into different menswear garments?
“No, I want Machiavellian to be known as the best sleepwear in the world. I strongly believe that to be the best you have to focus on one product. This is especially true for menswear. I'll buy shoes from Trickers or an umbrella from Swaine Adeney & Brigg, because I know they are masters of these products. However I would never buy a Trickers shirt. Vilebrequin is the business model I'd like Machiavellian to follow. They have built a large global luxury brand by just focusing on mens & boys swimwear.”
