Mens Hairstyle Trends For 2016

As the menswear industry grows, so does the barbering world. It’s a time where men’s hairstyles are changing faster and faster, so if you want to keep up with haircut trends for 2016 - read on. We spoke with Sam Hickey, the Senior Barber of Murdock London about complimentary products and future trends. We also analysed hairstyles at the most recent global men’s fashion weeks, both on the runway and streets.

Mens Hairstyle Trends For 2016

Textured Quiff

The quiff over recent years has come and gone in different variations, big or small, with a relaxed or structured cut. With this trend coming back in you can be adventurous with a textured quiff. This hairstyle can be fairly easy to style with the right products too. It's about adding depth and life to your hair without it looking too structured and stiff. You can develop this with a sharp cut especially through the back and sides and by leaving quite a lot of height on top - this will create a sophisticated but natural look. Recommended products are Sea Salt Spray and Hair Doh for a good hold and a natural, easygoing look. To style just grab your hair at the sides of the crown and pull it up and twist the hair slightly. With the front, simply choose to wear this pulled away from the face or down slightly.

Man Bob

Over the last few seasons we have seen that a lot of men have grown out their hair. Whether they chose to leave it down or pull it back into a man bun it’s been something that we are beginning to grow tired of (no pun intended). Murdock’s Sam has predicted that where in 2015 the hair length was below the collar bone, men will be reducing this (in 2016) to below the shoulders for a much neater and sleeker look. The slightly shorter style will instantly make the hair look fuller and neater all over. It is important when asking your stylist for this type of cut to make sure you ask for textured ends to avoid it looking too feminine.

Military-esque

Expect a super short haircut for SS16, hence the name ‘military-esque’. With this style it’s about keeping it really tight at the back and sides and a crop on top. It’s a style that has over the years stood the test of time, it’s simple and easy to style. However, something worth noting before cropping your mop, this is a cut that suits those with a more structured face shape as opposed to those with round or square shapes. Otherwise your face will look too block like and the haircut won’t add any depth to your face. When it comes to styling just at a very small amount of Matt Mudd for a textured finish so it doesn't end up being fluffy and fly away.

Mens Hairstyle Trends For 2016

Side Parting

The side parting is a contemporary look inspired by the 1960s which has been pretty predominant in recent seasons and it is here to stay in 2016. It's a style which works really well for those with thick hair, whether a pompadour style or buzzcut. Most men have a natural parting as their hair falls one way or the other. So emphasize this by creating a deep side part that is faded and slightly undercut on one side whilst structured on the other. It can be a bold look if you want your hair to stand out, needless to say it’s still appropriate for the office and can be worn with both long or shorter hair. If you want something more sophisticated try a wet look with a strong hold Fudge Hair Gum and comb the bulk of the hair at the top over to one side - go for either a sleek combover or vintage waves for texture. If you have longer hair or a slight fringe, add some mystery to your style and leave it more relaxed on one side and across your forehead.

Mens Hairstyle Trends For 2016

Natural Texture

A trend which we saw emerging from the recent SS16 runway shows. If you weren’t putting all your attention on what the models were wearing at LCM this year you might have also noticed the naturally left hair a lot of the guys were sporting. If you want a style that is a quick and easy day-to-day option this could be something to consider. When visiting your barber ask for natural layers to maximise the volume and texture as much as possible (it doesn’t require much styling afterwards). The little styling needed is simple - wet down the hair with blow dry spray and blow dry it flat whilst it remains in the natural wave of the hair, add some GHD straight and smooth spray once dry and shake it out a little whilst still keeping it as flat as possible.

Johannes Huebl x Mario Testino

Johannes Huebl x Mario Testino

We really have gone full circle with Mountain Men haven't we? Mountain Men used to have neanderthalic qualities, inarticulate, rocking a Gallagher-esque Mono-brow with a beard you could stash your pork scratchings in. Imagine Ray Lamontange if you took away his acoustic guitar and stuck him in a loin cloth. Now all of a sudden the PR team behind the Mountain Man have upped their game. They've stuck a Cîroc Cocktail in his hand, got a chiselled German adonis to be the face of said Mountain Man and have legendary photographer Mario Testino take his picture three thousand feet up the slopes of the Solden Mountains (The location is also where the major action scene in the upcoming James Bond film SPECTRE was filmed).

Johannes Huebl x Mario Testino

So who is this Johannes Huebl? Johannes has fronted campaigns for luxury brands; recently launched his own capsule collection and become a member of the prestigious MR PORTER style council. He only has 731k followers on Instagram and is married to Olivia Palermo, famous for some reality TV show I've never heard of. God I hate this guy. He wins the DNA lottery, hooks up with a dimpled vision 10 years his junior and gets handed free Cîroc cocktails to drink up a mountain with his model friends. I just hope he has a really small penis. Only joking Johannes, you're drinking my favourite Vodka, and I'd never wish a small penis on anyone, no matter how much seething bitter jealously I have cursing through my veins.

Johannes Huebl x Mario Testino

What we do know about Johannes is that he's what some girls might call 'The Complete Package'. He's studied applied cultural science with the emphasis in film and photography, cultural history and philosophy before being asked to join Promod Model Agency in Hamburg, where his career began. Since then he's worked for clients such as Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, MontBlanc and featured in every magazine worth its salt - GQ, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Viz, Elle, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar to name but a few (Not really Viz, I was just checking you were paying attention). This latest collaboration with Cîroc Vodka for the unveiling of their third series of images for their ‘On Arrival’ story is shot by visionary photographer Mario Testino which is the latest peacock feathered arrow in his luxurious leather grained quiver.

Johannes Huebl x Mario Testino

“I loved the shoot location it reminds me of the days spent skiing in the Alps with my friends and the fun and spirit of après-ski. I am also a big James Bond fan so shooting in the same location is pretty special. My Cîroc vodka martini? Shaken of course!" - Johannes Huebl

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Japanese style can quite often be extraordinary, a little bit weird, but stylish and impressive to look at nonetheless. Of course, dressing like that in your hometown might be a little too much, but there are some trends and style ideas you steal for yourself. In this article you will be presented with the most common and stylish trends from Japan.

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Layers, layers and more layers

Well, one of the first things that is easily noticeable about Japanese style is that they do love a bit of layering. For them, it is quite unusual to wear only one layer of clothing – even in the summer. To adopt this simply start layering your outfits a little more. You can do this in many various ways, such as matching a shirt with something like a cardigan sweater, or a waistcoat. Also don’t be afraid to complete an outfit by adding something like a fedora and a light-weight jacket for a more relaxed casual look. Just layer!

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Break the rules

Another fashion tip that Japanese men can give you is to break the rules of fashion and create your own unique style. Forget about matching colours and fabrics. Wear whatever you like, if you feel like wearing a denim shirt with a tailored jacket, then go for it! The essential tip here would be finding your unique style while experimenting. If you’re brave enough and want to be a step closer to fashionistas in Japan, start breaking the rules.

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Pick one primary element

After you’re done breaking the rules choose one central element of your outfit and accentuate it. A colour, a cut, or a jacket - anything goes. For example, you can find many guys in Tokyo wearing all-black outfits, but with a little pop of red in their shoelaces or belt stitching. The accent piece can be any garment you like, but in Japan guys tend to choose one from the following: scarves, fedoras, ties, shoes, loafers, boots or converse.

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

Overdress rather than under-dress

Japanese guys tend to overdress rather than be under-dress. In fact, overdressing in Japan is one of the most organic and standard ways of standing out from the crowd. Don’t be afraid to wear a business suit on casual days, or a formal blazer when going out. It can create a very sophisticated look and make you look very stylish indeed.

Japanese Style Ideas worth Stealing

To buy into this ‘stylish Japanese’ vibe you don’t need to travel as far since Target is the place to go, especially since they stock tons of super stylish clothing - and these Target coupons exist too. Buy yourself a few new pieces according to these tips and save some money for a trip to Japan. It is a win-win for sure!

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

With the mercury in thermometers rapidly dropping, now’s the time to start thinking about your winter work shoes. Having the perfect footwear for the chilly season will help ensure you look and feel great even when the weather’s doing its worst. So that you make the best choices, here’s your essential guide to these fashion must-haves.

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

Give boots a go

In the past, you might have shied away from buying boots for work, assuming they’re too clunky and lack the style of regular shoes. In fact though, there are a host of debonair designs on offer and worn under trousers, they can look just the same as other styles of footwear. You can get all the inspiration you need online too. Specialist websites like anatomicshoes.com offer everything from classic brogue and Chelsea boots to more casual dessert designs. The best thing about boots in winter is that they keep your feet cosy even when it’s freezing outside.

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

Stay away from leather soles

Whether you go for boots or shoes, it’s wise to steer clear of designs that feature leather soles. This material simply doesn’t provide enough insulation when temperatures sink. Instead, look out for shoes that come with soles made from rubber. This material is more robust and it does a better job of protecting your feet from the chill of the ground beneath you.

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

Go for something with grip

Make sure your footwear has plenty of grip too. Polished soles might not pose a problem during the warmer months, but with a little ice on the ground, they can make pavements seem perilous. So, before you buy shoes take a careful look at their tread to make sure you’re buying something that’s fit for the winter season. This will allow you to stride in confidence rather than having to shuffle your way to and from work.

An Essential Guide to Winter Shoes

Leave space for thicker socks

Last but not least, rather than going for your usual size of shoe, consider getting footwear that’s a little larger. By buying products that are half a size bigger, you can ensure that when temperatures take a tumble you’re able to wear thicker socks without squashing your feet. A decent pair of winter work shoes could last you for years, so it’s worthwhile putting plenty of thought into this purchase. The right footwear will keep you comfortable and it should serve as the perfect complement for your work outfits.

JOCKS and NERDS x Fred Perry

JOCKS and NERDS x Fred Perry

Together with style and culture magazine Jocks&Nerds, Fred Perry has now created Young Heads, a series of short films exploring new millennial subcultures in the UK. Whilst the first short centred around the skating community in Mile End, this latest release directed by Max Cutting and Rich Luxton dips into the Jungle scene investigating the lifestyle and what constitutes the identity of a modern day Junglist.

JOCKS and NERDS x Fred Perry

Jungle had lifted sounds from the London rave scene. DJs who had already been speeding up breakbeats were cranking up the BPM even higher, mixing in influences from ragga and dancehall. Watching the two minute short, it stirred a nostalgic sentiment, reanimating an old skin I shed twenty years ago. Being a child of the 90s I was there for Jungle's conception. And when I say conception I actually heard Goldies 'Timeless' in 1995, at the point when it turned mainstream I jumped on the Jungle bandwagon and pretended that I had been there all along with my greasy hair, middle parting, complete with an undercut and a mini lock that curled around my forehead like Superman. However now as I write this, listening to my Best of Debussy rocking my Guinness slippers, I wonder whatever happened to Jungle? Did it die the minute Goldie left to pursue a career as a Bond Villain? Did it rebrand into something that hadn't made the BBC 6 Music's playlist? And what's with all the questions, why am I Carrie fricking Bradshaw all of a sudden?

JOCKS and NERDS x Fred Perry

Turns out it went nowhere. I went somewhere and buried Jungle deep into the recesses of my mind. The film features Junglists Demolition Man, Hal Hudson and Benny Page and explores how in recent years, Jungle has experienced a revival in the UK. A new group of Junglists, inspired by the genre’s original sound and ethos, have helped provide energy to the scene.

“While the scene today is a sort of cult scene in comparison to its heights in the mid-1990s, that makes it extra special to the people involved in it ... artists like Congo Natty, Ed Solo, and Demolition Man are still flying the flag and pushing the sound forward.” - Benny Page, a present-day jungle and drum’n’bass DJ and producer.

Are Your Driving Habits Hurting Your Wallet

Are Your Driving Habits Hurting Your Wallet

Shopping around for good deals on your car insurance can help to bring your cover costs down, but unless you pay careful attention to your driving habits, you might struggle to access the most competitive policies. If you’re wondering whether your behaviour on the roads is pushing your premiums up, ask yourself the following questions:

Are Your Driving Habits Hurting Your Wallet

Do you get behind the wheel too readily?

If you automatically reach for your car keys each time you leave your house, you could be putting upward pressure on your policy prices. The fact is, the more time you spend behind the wheel, the more you may end up shelling out for insurance. Specialist broker Chill.ie highlights this fact, noting that some insurers offer limited mileage policies at discounted rates. This means that by agreeing to stay within a lower annual mileage range, you might be able to cut your costs. Of course, if you have to travel long distances for work, you may not have this option. But if you often find yourself climbing into the driver’s seat to make short journeys you could easily do on foot, by bike or using public transport, now might be the time to rethink your approach.

Are Your Driving Habits Hurting Your Wallet

Are you a rule breaker?

Struggling to stick to the rules of the road could hit your pocket too, and it’s not just fines you have to watch out for. Racking up penalty points on your licence for offences such as speeding or reckless driving could result in big increases in your insurance premiums. You are obliged to declare unspent convictions to cover providers, and they are likely to up your charges as a result. Three points on your licence could lead to price rises of over £50, and the added expense associated with more serious offences can be much higher. So, next time you’re tempted to speed or commit another breach of the law, think about the impact this could have on your finances.

Are Your Driving Habits Hurting Your Wallet

Do you take risks on the roads?

Building up a no claims bonus is an effective way to keep your insurance costs in check, but if you fail to drive defensively, you could be putting your clean sheet at risk. It’s impossible to completely rule out the possibility of having an accident, but by driving carefully, you stand a much better chance. This means leaving plenty of room between you and the car in front, always looking ahead for potential problems, taking road positions that mean you can see and be seen by other motorists and never letting your attention wander. By taking precautions like this, you stand the best possible chance of keeping any no claims bonus intact. If you’ve answered yes to any or all of these questions, the chances are you’re paying more than you need to for your car cover - and so you may want to revisit your driving habits.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

If you’re bored of beach holidays and fancy trying something more adventurous, African safaris can be perfect. From game-viewing expeditions in the east or south of the continent to gorilla safaris in Uganda and mountain climbing breaks on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, there are plenty of action-packed itineraries to choose from. To really make the most of these holidays though, you’ll need to ensure you take the right gear. With this in mind, here are the top travel essentials for safaris.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Practical bags

Forget wheelies, when it comes to choosing a bag for these holidays, think compact and soft. Duffel bags or canvas holdalls are ideal because they can squeeze into tight spaces in vehicles and small aircraft. As well as your main luggage, make sure you take a day bag that you can store things like your camera and binoculars in. A simple, lightweight rucksack should be perfect for this.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Some sturdy footwear

Regardless of the type of vacation you book, you’ll need sturdy, comfortable footwear - and this is especially important if you’re planning a walking safari. According to bespoke adventure holiday specialists The Explorations Company, travelling across the African terrain on foot is one of the finest ways to see the country because it allows you to really keep in touch with nature. However, to enjoy these experiences to the full, you’ll need the right shoes. It’s worth investing in a pair of high-quality boots, and try to wear them in a bit before you set off on your holiday.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Light clothes for the day and layers for night

Temperatures can soar during the day, so you’ll need cool clothes like light trousers, shorts and T-shirts. Natural fabrics such as cotton tend to be more comfortable in the heat than synthetic materials. Also, because dark colours tend to attract insects and bright hues can scare off animals, it’s best to go for neutral shades like stone, pale brown and khaki. For the early mornings and evenings, you’ll need long-sleeved tops and trousers to protect you from mosquitoes. It’s also worth having a jumper or fleece because temperatures can drop, especially if you’re on higher ground.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Plenty of sun protection

Sun protection is essential too. As well as taking high factor sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses, it’s useful to have a wide-brimmed hat. Ideally, this should have a strap so it won’t blow off if you’re standing in a jeep or van.

Travel Essentials For Your First Safari

Extras

A good quality camera is another safari must-have, and make sure you take a battery charger for this piece of kit. It’s also useful to have a decent pair of binoculars with you. Of course, you’ll need to take some toiletries too, and you might also want to pack wet wipes so you can stay clean on the go. Consider adding a basic first aid kit and a small torch to your luggage as well. The key to packing properly for any safari is to read your holiday itinerary carefully to ensure you know exactly what to expect. For example, you’ll need to be aware of all the activities you’re going to try, the facilities you’ll have access to in camp and the weather you are likely to encounter.

Upgrade Your Suit with Stytched

Has there ever been more judgement on how to wear a suit? I swear there used to be a time when simply wearing a suit would be enough to command respect, to communicate a message that your proverbial ducks are in order, or as we say where I'm from, "this guy's got his sh*t together." But now in the age of profiling and first impressions, simply donning the suit may no longer get you job, the interview, or even past the secretary’s security. There has been a huge sea-change in the past couple of years, from the emergence of digital menswear magazines like ours, to even the hyperbolic scrutiny of Tom Ford's Bond capsule. So with the suit a given, the focus is now being pulled from the suit itself, to the accessories it’s adorned with. With that in mind we take a look at some must-have accessories available from stytched.co

Upgrade Your Suit with Stytched

1. The Liz Nehdi's Flying Dutchman Pocket Square, with undulating motifs fusing Royal Blues with Turquoise and Orange - this sumptuous silk twill pocket square is unashamedly bohemian. Part of Liz Nehdi's popular 'Following' design series, this show piece will certainly have all eyes following you.

2. Don't be caught out wielding that torn batman wallet you harbour unfounded sentiment attachment for when it comes to picking up the tab at the cool wine bar you take all your first dates to. Think about it, unless you're actually Batman, has being "into Batman" ever got your laid? Also you're picking up the tab, don't undo your gentlemanly deed by sullying the payment with poor presentation. Instead whip out the Mayhem Carr Card Holder, composed from the finest genuine vegetable tanned leather.

Upgrade Your Suit with Stytched

3. Perfect for Movemeber this month, these Riada by Adair stylish moustache cufflinks are a unique fusion of birch wood and stainless steel. Owner and designer Jasmine Adair Flood personally head hunted a team of custom accessory artisans to revolutionize the suit accessory market. So far so good in our opinion.

4. Whilst the song itself maybe the worst thing to happen to popular culture since Bowie and Jagger went dancing in the street, this head turning navy necktie with its esoteric woven rope pattern in red and gold will be a flamboyant addition to your wardrobe. An element of grammar school prep design will offer an aesthetic of studious intent. Basically it will heighten your teammates' expectations of you (should you be seen wearing this at the pub quiz).

5. The tie bar is a wonderful conversation stimulator, especially if it has intricate detail tab logos such as the treble clef on this black acrylic and stainless steel tie bar from Riada by Adair. If you're a little rusty on your musical theory then simply say you chose the treble clef because it was literally higher than the bass and the alto in the clef pecking order. Watch the musos in the room snort with recognition.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

Along with black, camel has long been considered a luxury colour for your wardrobe and is making a comeback this season. It's versatile enough to be worn for smarter occasions as well as casually at the weekend. It’s a warm colour perfect for the Autumn/Winter transition since the colour is softer than brown and not as cold as cream or beige.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

For a smart look, we generally recommend sticking to one (or two at the most) garment piece of camel within a styled look at a time so it becomes the one focal point of your outfit.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

Let's take a tailored look as your first option - the camel overcoat, either a Pea coat or Duffle can be good options for a smart way of layering over a suit or jeans. Use fashion show street style images as inspiration for a traditional look - this is where we see an array of camel outerwear worn over dark suits along with fedora hats and lace up Brogues. You can also dress down the camel overcoat with dark wash jeans, military boots and throw in a khaki beanie for added muted tones.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

Alternatively, for crisp autumn days and winter office wear - a luxe look is a smart camel blazer. This can be worn with dark coloured wool trousers or dark wash jeans if perhaps it’s 'Dress Down Friday'. Then add a crew neck sweater and shirt combo underneath in a navy, maroon or khaki tone - or if you want to opt out of wearing a shirt, add a light coloured roll neck underneath instead. For added colourful details and texture throw in a patterned silk pocket square to finish.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

For casual and weekend wear you can try multiple camel knitwear designs. A merino wool roll neck or cardigan is a great way to warm up those winter tones of blacks and greys. Match your knitwear with dark wash jeans or tonal chinos and desert or military boots for a comfortable casual look. Other casual camel options can include a versatile bomber which is easy to wear and can be worn with shirts, sweaters or just a t-shirt underneath. Or why not opt for sneakers in camel for an urban street look. But remember to keep the rest of the colours in your outfit fairly muted and tonal to contrast with the camel shade to keep it as the focal point of your look.

How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

Lastly, if you feel you're not brave enough to wear any of these mentioned garments in camel, why not opt for accessorise in this colour such as a thick woollen scarf, a fedora or even a belt.

The Perfume Supper Club

The Perfume Supper Club

From the brainchild of That Hungry Chef, Pratap Chahal, comes The Perfume Supper Club, an evening where the fleeting and surreal world of perfume becomes expertly infused into a sumptuous feast, using organic and pure natural essential oils, absolutes and essences. Pratap is a humble man with a good handshake. He has cooked at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, Chez Bruce, Cinnamon Club and Galvin Bistrot, amongst others. The venue for the evening was Ben's House, a cosy deli and fine food shop in Central London where everything is cured, created or crafted in London. Farmdrop provided all the ingredients with 99% of them being sourced from in and around London.

The Perfume Supper Club

It's the sort of dinner where Hannibal Lecter would lift a plate of scented pheasant to his face, close his eyes and whisper "Hmmm Tennessee lavender with a dusting of Ambergris" and his table of guests, no doubt from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, would burst out in spontaneous applause (Although it probably wasn't pheasant, if you get what I mean).

The Perfume Supper Club

Upon arrival I was offered a welcome cocktail: Old Amazon Tonka bean infused with rum, coffee and coconut. Throughout the night the team from Wines of Momentary Destination paired their own wines alongside the meal - plus a few other London-centric bottles. The evening was tiered with top, middle and bottom notes, the culinary facsimile to Michael Barrymore's 'Strike It Lucky'.

The Perfume Supper Club

Starting from the top, the delectable white onion & Oud soup. A pushy but yet not assertive finish that dodged the proverbial hotspot. The bergamot and rosemary cured salmon was right up my dirt track - being my favourite fish-dish. I wasn't sure if I was meant to eat the flowered garnish but it didn't go to waste. The headline act was the Himalayan Srew Pine scented pheasant which was mopped up in no time. I was goaded into asking for some ketchup, but sheathed my tongue despite being semi out of it by the time the chocolate labdanum and tobacco tart arrived. I had actually tasted tobacco a few weeks back when I took a hit off my soda one morning not knowing my chain smoking friend Nigel had been using it for an ashtray the night before. Five Malboro dog-ends marinated in luke-warm yet noticeably flat Fanta, isn't the best tonic for a hangover I can tell you.

The Perfume Supper Club

The evening was educational, spirited and above all the food was bang-on. The esoteric menu is clearly a product of Pratap’s vast repertoire of cuisine inspired by not only Mandy Aftel's book 'Fragrant: The Secret Life of Scent', but from his own wealth of experience and traveling. He's also launched his own brand of food products. There's the Mojo Risin' range of dangerously hot chilli relishes and the Curious Pickle Collection of Indian beef & pork pickles that transform into a dinner for 2 in many ways.

Become a Black Tie Rebel

Become a Black Tie Rebel

After working 9-5 for the whole year, it’s time for a few well-deserved parties. Unless the dress code is strictly Black Tie, how you dress is up to you – and Moss Bros are encouraging you to be a rebel. Buck the trend of the year and avoid the go-to suit or shirt you’ve been wearing all year – its time to shake things up and to try on something a little different. Without Prejudice AW15 Electric Avenue

It is the 1970s; a decade of fun, frivolity and excess. For AW15, Drapers Award winning Menswear Brand of the Year, Without Prejudice lets its hair down and goes on a nostalgic journey back to this hedonistic era with a collection that takes a modern spin on the sartorial vibe of the decade. Drawing inspiration from the bright lights and masculine vibe of the 70s casinos scene, the AW15 collection features a veritable melting pot of rich vibrant colours, heavyweight fabrics and strong defined shapes.

Without Prejudice AW15 Electric Avenue

Hit the casino in winning style with a suave look guaranteed to turn heads. Choose the super soft violet and grey brushed wool check jacket paired with brushed wool grey flat front trousers and complete the look with a simple black wool roll neck.

Without Prejudice AW15 Electric Avenue

Prefer to hedge your fashion bets? Opt for a more understated peak lapel grey flannel check suit, pair with a wine cotton shirt or if the atmosphere starts to turn distinctly frosty, add a crimson wool roll neck and avoid the chill. When the cards come up trumps it’s time to celebrate in style. Go for the bold electric blue three-piece wool suit paired with a clashing floral print shirt and topped off with the charcoal wool overcoat.

Without Prejudice AW15 Electric Avenue

Without Prejudice was conceived in 2007 around a simple yet ambitious vision. To create a tailoring brand which embraces change and inspires innovation; a brand which communicates individuality over mass appeal, ultimately to build a brand without falling into the trappings of label worship.

Hamilton and Hare host the Premiere of Mr Calzaghe

Hamilton and Hare hosted a screening of Mr Calzaghe at Soho House to commemorate their partnership with British Boxing. In October they launched a collection of simple loungewear and a towelling-lined hooded robe paying homage to the boxers pre-fight robe, enabling you to feel double hard when you exit the bathroom - nimbly hopping from foot to foot, doing some light shadow boxing down the hallway.

Meeting Joe Calzaghe albeit briefly was a real treat. As I bustled through an intimate crowd of journos and film producers I was introduced to the former Welsh Super Middleweight champion, we pressed the flesh, "Great to meet you Joe, I just need a quote for the article." He replied casually, "Hey Pete, stay where you are I just need to take a piss." Of course I noted that one down before being shepherded into the screening room where the documentary 'Mr Calzaghe' was due to commence.

The documentary lifted the veil on the most bizarre trainer and fighter relationship. Joe's father Enzo Calzaghe was a singer-songwriter and when he teamed up with Joe he infused his musical knowledge into his training. "Well a jab is like a verse, couple of those, but don't hang about, get to the chorus and unload pow pow pow." - Enzo Calzaghe. Enzo provides the charisma and the comic relief whilst Joe, is just simply, Joe.

An enigma, understated and introverted, perhaps still harbouring the scars of a troubled childhood. Early moments in the documentary give an insight to how he utilised his boxing skills to overcome his bullies, when 40 kids turned up to the Joe's gym he offered to fight them one by one in the ring. Naturally, and luckily for everyone involved they scarpered.

The fights sequences themselves had incredible jeopardy which was probably one of the hardest things to achieve as Joe was undefeated in 46 fights. For me the jeopardy was lived vicariously through his sister and two sons watching on. Joe's mother couldn't watch Joe fight after watching the death of Welsh fighter Johnny Owen who was knocked out by Mexican fighter Lupe Pintor in Vegas, 1980 and never recovered consciousness. That moment in the film brought an audible gasp and resonated the perilous dangers of the sport and how hard it must be, some would say more so, for the loved ones of the fighters who emotionally absorb the same punches.

Additional interviews with Michael J Fox, Chris Eubank and sports writer Gareth Davies gave the documentary additional flavour. This documentary isn't just purely for boxing fans. The narrative really focuses on the relationship between a fighter and his trainer, between a father and his son, the most unexpected success since Apollo trained Rocky. Wanna ring the bell?

Harrods Contemporary Collections 1 Year On

Harrods are currently celebrating their 1st Birthday of their Contemporary Collections department. As I previously wrote about their new 3000 sq/ft menswear department, if you haven't been to have a look, it is seriously worth dropping by for a browse. Even with only having been open for a year, Harrods have already added some new names to their list of brands and further developments to some of the shop fittings.

Harrods Contemporary Collections 1 Year On

Harrods have invested a huge amount of money into their Contemporary Menswear department and are really trying to encourage more men to branch out with their style choices and the way they shop. There are of course a percentage of you who enjoy a trip to the shops or a couple of hours spent browsing online. However for many men shopping is still seen as a chore and something they are dragged out to do as a weekend activity with their enthusiastic other halves. With Harrods dramatically improving their lower ground floor with their stylish decor and extensive international brands on offer, it is hard not to be enticed in store. It is definitely a place for the fashion savvy but also for you guys who are looking for advice and a comfortable place to enjoy shopping.

Harrods Contemporary Collections 1 Year On

As part of their celebrations, some of their most popular and top-selling brands have designed an exclusive sweater for the store. Sweaters are still a major trend that are continuously appearing throughout designers' collections so one of these will be ideal for your winter wardrobe. If you like a loud print then you can choose between Moschino or Versus by Versace or the more toned down designs come from Markus Lupfer and Emporio Armani. My personal favourite is the simple black sweater with a rope effect detail by 3.1 Philip Lim. As well as these anniversary sweaters there are new signature sections in store for Philip Lim, Versus, Ami and new comers to the fashion scene; Solid Homme. Solid Homme is a worldwide exclusive to Harrods.

Harrods Contemporary Collections 1 Year On

Something else to keep an eye on is the new pop up space Harrods have introduced into their menswear department. To extend their offerings even further they have set up a space where brands can introduce and promote themselves for a month. First up to take residency in this space is British label, Blood Brothers. Pop-up spaces have proven very successful in various stores so it is a prime spot for any budding designer. With Harrods already having made quite a major stamp on the menswear scene, I am very intrigued to see what else they have hidden up their fashionable sleeves.

Mens Hairstyles for the Office

Styling yourself for the corporate world can be difficult if you are the fashion conscious type. It can be tricky to get the right balance of bringing your style to the workplace without upsetting your boss or colleagues. You also need to think about your hair style too - ask yourself if it’s appropriate and if it’s your desired style.

Mens Hairstyles for the Office

Away From the Face

A key tip for the work place is to make sure hair is kept away from your face. Regardless of if you can still see or not it will make you less approachable, and it could also be something affecting whether you get that promotion. This hairstyle requires very quick and simple styling using a small amount of hair putty through your hair. Comb the bulk of the front of you hair away from your face and run your fingers through it after to give it a natural and fuller look and fuller look. You can achieve this with either the faux hawk or pompadour hairstyle for a modern and smart look.

Mens Hairstyles for the Office

The Corporate Mohawk

That’s right, there's a Mohawk for the corporate world - who knew? So just like your regular Mohawk (whilst keeping the sides really short) shave through a fade keeping it very short with slightly more hair on top. By running a small amount of putty or hair gum through your hair it’s really easy to style the top - just hold it in place with a small amount hair product such as putty, clay or paste.

Mens Hairstyles for the Office

Long Hair

Long hair can cause a bit a difficulty if worn in the work place. The key to keeping this style understated is to keep it neat and tidy. Going back to my original advice of keeping your hair from your face, this is especially important when you have a long hair. Neatly comb it back, achieved using your hands and keep hair away from your face. Although the man bun is slowly fading, you can pull it back low and hold into place with a band.

Mens Hairstyles for the Office

For those balding...

Although you may not want to accept you have a slight receding hairline, the worst mistake any man can make when it comes to balding is trying to cover their balding patches with a combover. Take some inspiration from Bruce Willis and go for the buzz cut and trim it down nice and short. You’ll look far smarter and tidier if you keep it this way - just remember to wear it with confidence.

The Future of Smartwatches

The Future of Smartwatches

The renaissance has come upon us, or so the technology industry would have you believe. "The wrist is interesting," said Apple chief executive Tim Cook at a conference in May 2013. The problem was that with time being displayed almost anywhere now, it appeared watches were pushed from objects of convenience, to becoming jewellery, or essentially a luxury product. Smartwatches may well be disruptive to the tech market, but it’s unlikely that Rolex’s with a vast range of styles sold by traditional watch merchants will be threatened, as they satisfy different needs and target a different demographic.

The Future of Smartwatches

After a two-decade decline in which the mobile phone seemingly usurped the watch as our universal timekeeper, gadget makers are convinced they can recapture this real estate. Where will that take us? The first watches were a revolutionary form of wearable technology, and their history is a guide to the impact that their most recent incarnations might have on the way we live and work. 2014 was hailed by many as the year of the smartwatch. In 2015, we're finally starting to figure out what that means.

The Future of Smartwatches

The excitement about the Apple Watch remained below expectations and the product sales were underperforming as well. Now, a few months after the launch, sales and excitement have partially caught up. Competing smartwatches are already on their second or third iterations, and we're finally starting to get a clearer picture of what the future of the smartwatch may hold.

The Future of Smartwatches

From Apple's ultra-quick announcement of the forthcoming watchOS 2 (announced just six short weeks after Apple Watch started shipping) and Android Wear's recent v1.3 update (its second major update of 2015), we can surmise that smartwatch manufacturers are beginning to grasp more fully what consumers really want from wearable devices. The watchOS 2, for example, is even said to feature time-lapse videos for your watch face, as well as many more ways to customise your personal timepiece.

The Future of Smartwatches

What’s important as well, the new editions are bringing the timepiece farther into the fashion world. The most obvious style updates to the gadget are the new, very neutral colours Apple has introduced. On sale now are two new cases in brushed rose gold aluminium and brushed gold aluminium that pair with muted new sport band colours. Translated into fashion terms: Apple’s new midnight blue, stone, lavender, and antique white bands are classier than ever.

The Top 5 Mens Shirt Styles for AW15

The shirt - a simple yet stylish staple item for any man’s wardrobe. But why should you stick to just the usual white formal shirt? You can add texture, dimension and colour in a number of ways with a variety of shirt styles this autumn/winter 2015.

The Top 5 Mens Shirt Styles for AW15

Oxford Shirts

Let’s start with the preppy shirt icon. The great thing about the Oxford shirt is that they’re made from a thicker material than your usual shirt - so perfect for the autumn/winter season and you can get away with losing the jacket in the office without looking under or half dressed. A simple white oxford shirt under a patterned blazer will not cause you any complaints with your boss. However, there are many colourful styles available which can brighten up what could be considered an average outfit.

Check Shirts

Check shirts can be pretty versatile, but remember one small factor - the smaller the checks the smarter the shirt will become. So if you want something a little more sartorial choose a gingham or Prince of Wales check. The best jacket styles to wear over a smart checked shirt are either sports jackets or deconstructed jackets with relaxed shoulders teamed with neutral toned trousers and a brown brogue. If you want a more casual look simply wear the shirt with a leather jacket over or a chunky knit cardigan matched with jeans and boots.

Flannel Shirts

Flannel shirts are the best when it comes to keeping warm since they were initially made for farmers and rangers. Their image changed and turned more towards becoming a fashionable shirt in the late 1980s to early 90s with an indie rock band vibe. There are a few ways in which you can wear the flannel shirt: open, over a loose t shirt with slim jeans and trainers for a casual look. Alternatively, button it up under a plain crew neck sweater, chinos and brogues for a smarter look. If a patterned shirt isn’t really something you like to wear then choose a shirt which consists of darker shades, or a more subtle pattern and keep the rest of your outfit fairly minimal.

Denim Shirts

Denim shirts have always had a vintage aura about them and a streetwear style. However, you can also work this into a smart daywear look under a blazer if you choose the colours and styles wisely. Granted some offices would still consider the denim shirt a little too casual for work so this is something to consider before stepping out the door. You can create a subtle western vibe with stone washed jeans and a pair of neutral Chelsea or lace up derby boots. The key to teaming denim is to contrast shades e.g. a dark denim shirt with blue jeans or a stone washed denim shirt with dark wash jeans. Just avoid wearing all-denim of the same colour - you don’t want to leave the house looking like Justin Timberlake back in the 90s.

Long Sleeved Polo Shirts

The casual side of the shirt spectrum, however a practical option to see you through the autumn and winter months. The polo shirt is a great ‘no frills’ shirt offered in a variety of colours and best worn with jeans and rugged boots for a casual look. You can also dress them up for the office with a blazer, which again might not be acceptable for some offices but you can make this look a little smarter by combining a checked shirt under the polo shirt and throwing a blazer over the top for a layered winter style.

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

We now travel more frequently for both work and leisure and baggage restrictions on budget airlines are terrible. Making sure your best clothes stay in good condition through airports, trains and taxis can be quite difficult. Here are a few travel packing hacks that we’ve put together which could make packing and unpacking a lot easier - while caring for your garments at the same time.

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

Shoes

Let’s start with the heavier items which should be at the bottom of your suitcase… shoes. To keep them away from scuffs and scratches, use shoe bags. Most shoe brands provide them but if not, you can buy them online easily. You should also pop a small tin of shoe polish or suede protector in your suitcase, granted you may not need it but you’ll be thankful if you do.

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

Suit Carriers

If you can, try to carry your more precious clothing items in a suit carrier when you’re flying. You can bring this straight onto the plane and this will prevent the suit from ruffling amongst other clothes in your bag and instantly reduce any creases from forming. A creased suit is never EVER a good look. If this is not an option for you, fold away your suit into your suitcase properly. There is a trick to folding a suit jacket; begin by pulling the lapels back slowly turning the jacket inside out, tuck one shoulder into the other, then roll the jacket up from top to bottom. By folding the jacket inside out any scuffs that may occur in your bag will not affect the outer part. You could also be extra careful, by then putting them in separate clothes bags within your case. Roll all other items in your suitcase too - it will prevent creases and also takes makes packing easier.

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

Those damn creases!

No matter how careful we are with packing our clothes to creases, this cannot always be avoided. If you don’t have an iron in your hotel room simply hang your garments in the bathroom while you take a shower with the door closed, the steam will help draw the creases out. Secondly, if do have access to a an iron and need to get creases out of thicker yet delicate silk items such as ties or suits, cover them with a towel and gently run the iron over, it will help get the creases out without damaging the material.

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

On Your Return...

Packing for your return can often get a bit tricky especially if you’ve picked up a few extra items. We’ve all been there, sitting on the hotel bed looking at our bulky suitcase which won’t close and thinking “Everything fit on the way here and there is nothing extra in there.” You have some dirty clothes which are headed straight for the wash when you get home. Don’t just ball them up into your suitcase, this will take up so much more room. Fold or roll them as if they were clean but keep them away from your clean clothes by put them in a bag (preferably not a plastic carrier bag as they hold moisture and are generally not good for your clothes).

Need-to-know Travel Packing Hacks

Important extras

Pack a clothes brush, there is nothing worse than attracting fluff or fur across your dark jacket. A brush will come in handy on those woollen garments too. Throw in small bottles of washing detergent; a lot of supermarkets now stock these for people on the go. Secondly, pack a small sewing kit - that missing button won’t look so neat at a work dinner. You may not want to be washing while you’re traveling, however if you do end up spilling something down your shirt or tie you won’t want to let it absorb further by waiting until you return home to then try and remove the stain. Make use of your sink or bath and soak them over night in cold water and hang them up to dry. Just be sure to check your garment washing guidelines before doing so and as a last resort you could use the hotel’s expensive dry cleaning service).
