Will Lowe Teaches us about Spirits

My tolerance for consuming alcohol on a 'school night' is definitely a lot lower than a few years ago. However, it was difficult to pass up on a mid-week opportunity to sample a variety of my favourite tipples of gin and rum. MWS were very kindly invited to join the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) to go down to Hixter Bankside to experience one of their fantastic spirit courses. Founded in 1969, the WSET is the largest global provider of wine and spirits qualifications. Even if you know nothing about alcohol but would like to know more, then you can join one of their beginners courses and follow it all the way through to even achieving the Level 4 Diploma. Drinking can actually be very intellectual!

Will Lowe Teaches us about Spirits

As soon as I walked into Hixter and saw the amount of glassware on the tables, I knew I was in for an exciting evening with the WSET. Before the tasting even began we were welcomed with a hefty cocktail to warm up the evening and offered delightful snacks from the trendy restaurant. I made sure I stocked up on the chicken popcorn and extraordinarily crunchy pork crackling, in order to prepare myself for the amount of alcohol about to be consumed!

Will Lowe Teaches us about Spirits

We were introduced to the compare for the evening, Will Lowe, who is a WSET tutor and a Master Distiller at the Cambridge Distillery. Clearly having a vast amount of knowledge on wine and spirits, Will explained to us which spirits we would be trying and how to classify them through taste. He strongly made the point that just because something tastes nice doesn't necessarily mean it is the best. We started off with 4 types of gin, followed by a complimentary gin cocktail and then a further 3 types of rum (also followed by a mouth cleansing cocktail). To classify the different samples we followed the official 'WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits and Liqueurs'. In order to classify each spirit, we evaluated them by appearance, nose, palate and then finally made a conclusion as to how the spirit rated from faulty to outstanding. Who knew spirits could be compared to asparagus, spent matches and dried flowers!?

Will Lowe Teaches us about Spirits

My personal favourites of the evening was the Cambridge Autumn/Winter 2015 Gin which has been produced by Will Lowe himself. Using herbs/plants from the surroundings of his home outside London, he has managed to create a gin unlike one I had ever tasted before! Highly recommended if you can get your hands on it! Then there was the Appleton Estate 12 YO Rum which with its “very complex” and “full-bodied” palate, comprising of hints of tobacco and oak, I believe it certainly deserved our conclusion of “outstanding”.

Will Lowe Teaches us about Spirits

As you can imagine after our numerous beverages, I was feeling quite elevated as I walked/swerved to the bus stop in Southwark. During the course, we were kindly offered a spittoon to dispose of the alcohol, however I was not the only one in thinking it would have been a waste not to make the most of the offerings. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I reckon even Chris Froome and his Sky Sports cycling team, who were partying downstairs, would have been envious of the event, If you would like to boost your knowledge and impress your friends/family/partners with some fancy words to describe your next drink on a night out, then definitely check out the courses run by WSET. Terms like “rancio” and “feinty” will be rolling off your tongue in no time.

4 Simple Office Style Upgrades for AW15

The majority of men who’ve devoted their lives to the concrete jungle will agree that this guide is the basis of their 9 to 5 ensembles. However, the 21st century style-conscious gent would also agree that office attire has a more individualistic appeal. With this ever-growing transition of style, there’s no doubt that it can be a minefield when approaching the daunting task of office attire. Will it ever be acceptable to style that shirt and sweatshirt? Will your boss look down on you? What if you don’t like wearing your suit jacket or if ties irritate you? With that being said, here are 4 key office staples for you to conquer this winter 2015.

4 Simple Office Style Upgrades for AW15

1. THE SUIT

Men usually opt for the traditional two-piece suit. The suit is for the man looking to go the extra mile, adding a pinch of suave. The three-piece is the next step up in power dressing for the boardroom. For a more contemporary-feel it’s always best to look for slim-fitting or tailored cuts - always make sure you have enough looks to rotate your office gear because tailored pieces also need a break to recover.

4 Simple Office Style Upgrades for AW15

2. THE SHIRT

The key for your shirt is to ensure it’s clean, crisp, and ironed - of course. Opt for shirts which come in high-cotton and avoid synthetic materials… if you want to stay sweat-free. Whether you work in a corporate office or a much more relaxed setting, a decent selection of work shirts will see you through your stresses of the job in style.

4 Simple Office Style Upgrades for AW15

3. THE TIE

Take a quick look around the office right now. Some men have the right approach to combining shirts and ties, and some... well, they ought to take note. Wearing a corporate suit every morning can suck the life out of you, the dull colours and restrictive shapes. Getting creative with your shirt and tie matching can be the most effective way of showcasing your style and pizazz for fashion in the workplace. In saying this, it can be easily misunderstood and styled wrongly. Combining patterns and colours can quickly take you down the road to a style faux pas, and the cause of your boss’ migraine. Stick to textured or matte finishes and remember, your tie should be as close to the width of your suit lapel as it can. It’s often easier to style contrasting colours than it is complementary ones too. Complementary colours are harder to match because wearing them in all their glory is often too much for the eye. The key here is to vary the shades. Your tie should always be a darker shade than your shirt.

4 Simple Office Style Upgrades for AW15

4. THE SHOES

Last but not least, footwear. Often easy to neglect when it comes to office attire. This is the pinnacle of any man’s office ensemble but so many men forget this and opt for cheap looking slip on shoes similar to what you wore back in school. Shoes hold the power to make or break your style. Choose wisely when it comes to footwear; black shoes pair with any colour suit. However, when wearing a navy, blue, or light grey suits, you can easily wear your brown shoes for a quick style turn-up. Look for classic Brogues, Derby or Oxford shoes and pay no less than £100.

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

Seduction has become too easy, too available in our post-modern world: instant visual gratification obtainable without any effort. Ok so that sentence was lifted straight off the Hugo Boss press release, the opening sentence in fact. "What's wrong with that" I thought? They're blatantly referring to internet dirt, and do we really want to go back to those primeval times of hanging around in the school yard, waiting for clouds to form the shape of boobies?

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

However after I was invited down to the Violin Factory to hear Will Andrews, Scientist and Senior Evaluator at P&G Prestige, talk about the mechanics of Hugo Boss The Scent - The latest release men's fragrance from Hugo Boss, I discovered there was more to seduction than meets the stiff one-eye, as Nicholson would say. Hugo Boss believes in a different type of seduction. Slow, steady, tense with anticipation, the BOSS way of seduction is an art, which finds a perfect balance between confidence and nonchalance. Tapping into what women really want, (which in my case, to be left alone) it is a masterful orchestration of all the senses.

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

"I’m honoured to be representing BOSS Parfums as an Ambassador in their latest perfume campaign. I have for a long time admired BOSS for achieving the perfect balance between the classic and the contemporary. This campaign encapsulates the iconic spirit of the brand and reflects my own tastes and attitudes towards a truly unique fragrance." - Theo James, BOSS The Scent ambassador.

Let's face it guys, dudes and dudettes, our idea of seduction is a night in with the squeeze, two bottles of cheap vino, a fluffy rom-com with either Sandra Bullock or Matthew McConaughey and ensuring the sheets are clean. And when I say clean, washed in the last month or is laced with febreeze. It's time we really upped our game, and what The Scent delivers is a distillation of the four key components to masculinity. Personal Magnetism, Innate Confidence, Strength and a huge... no, and impeccably groomed elegance and style.

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

1. PERSONAL MAGNETISM

BOSS The Scent boasts an exclusive ingredient from Africa: the aphrodisiac Maninka fruit, evocative of passion fruit and rum. However, the Maninka also evokes something deeper and more profound: the tug of desire (not to be confused with a desirable tug) and the pull of memory. Set on a virile leather base, its effect is potent, original, never to be forgotten - wait was I talking about?

2. CONFIDENCE

The confidence is poignantly characterised by the top notes of spicy ginger, an aggressive and present spice which makes a spirited entrance to the palate and triggers the pluck of the trigeminal nerve, the receptor responsible for sensation in the face and motor functions. Basically if your tongue discovers the thin wiry texture of a pube in your soup, the trigeminal nerve fires the flare gun in your brain.

Hugo Boss Unveil The Secret Behind The Scent

3. STRENGTH

An intense, burnished leather, lingering like memory, conveys pure, magnetic masculinity. A bit like when you get in your Uncles Jag and get a wiff of the cracked upholstery above the smell of stale cigars. These are the base notes that deliver that dark resinous character which conveys an apologetic animality.

4. ELEGANCE & STYLE

The final ingredient is the aromatic passivity of Lavender. The soapy element, with such a rich history that bears an unconscious relationship found in earlier aromatic fougeres. The Boss man is evident in the way he carries himself, chest so puffed he could scare of a Kodiak Bear, the cut of his suit, and his self-assured charisma.

4 Style Traits You Should Own

4 Style Traits You Should Own

The most stylish men are often those who look like they just rolled out of bed and threw on whatever they could find. Perfectly arched eyebrows, immaculately slicked back hair and an outfit that looks like it required an army of stylists to assemble will rarely result in the top spot of sexiest man alive lists. Rather, when it comes to men’s fashion and grooming, the rule of thumb seems to be the simpler, the better. But don’t be fooled, while David Gandy and David Beckham are certainly masters of appearing perfectly dishevelled in all the right ways, there is an art to looking so effortlessly cool.

4 Style Traits You Should Own

The power of simplicity

A simple white t-shirt and well-fitting jeans can be more stylish than an overcomplicated and accessory laden outfit. A watch is often enough, so leave the layers of necklaces at home. Keeping accessories to a minimum is key to looking understatedly cool. When in doubt, think James Dean and go for a cool leather jacket.

4 Style Traits You Should Own

The importance of fit

Far too many men wear clothes in sizes that are usually too big for them. The irony is that it often seems the logic goes "the bigger my clothes, the bigger I’ll look", when in fact the opposite is the case. Wearing clothes that drown you will only make you look skinnier instead of highlighting any muscle you might have. Just remember, there is no need to cut off your circulation so people can count every muscle either. Just stick to clothes that are the right size and perhaps even consider the occasional trip to the tailor to make certain that items will fit that little bit better.

4 Style Traits You Should Own

Finding inspiration

You don't have to look hard to find plenty of male fashion icons throughout the past and present. If you are trying to reinvent your style, one of the best ways to do so is by starting to imitate someone that you admire. Once you have the basics down, you can begin to put your own spin on it. A Pinterest board or even getting style motivation from browsing celebs like Robert Pattinson or Paul Newman on poster sites like posterlounge.co.uk, as this can inspire you and help you envision how you want to present yourself to the world.

4 Style Traits You Should Own

Making the right investment

There is no need to spend a lot when it comes to clothes, but investing in certain items will pay off in the long run. Shoes are one such item. Cheap shoes not only are easily spotted, but also don’t last as long or are as comfortable as their more expensive counterparts. The right pair of shoes can transform an outfit and take it into a different direction, so it’s worth establishing a diverse and high-quality collection.

Win a Jenny Schwarz Leather Weekend Bag

We’ve teamed up with fashion brand Jenny Schwarz to give away a black cowhide leather weekend bag to one of our readers. Jenny Schwarz takes influences from Johann Schneider, her great grandfather. By trade he was a bespoke menswear tailor in Bavaria during the 1930s but for pleasure, he was an adventurer. The dichotomy between the two facets of her great grandfather’s personality is what drives the creative spirit behind the menswear line. She chooses fabrics that illustrate natural performance qualities and bridge the gap between the function and form, balancing the two within each piece.

The Jenny Schwarz weekend bag is perfectly sized to balance practicality and aesthetics. The light grain of the black cowhide ages beautifully and uniquely, leaving every owner with an individual piece. It is designed to withstand the hardiest of adventures and with the leather properly cared for the bag becomes a real investment.

In Conversation with Clym Everden

I highly doubt you will not have seen a piece of Clym Everden's work. He is someone who has featured in multiple aspects of the fashion industry. Whether it be modelling, sitting on the front row of a fashion show or reporting from the shows using his impressive inky brush strokes for the likes of AnOther magazine and British Vogue. He is also well known for his numerous collaborations with high-end brands such as Burberry, Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton and Net-a-Porter.

Clym Everden's work is a kind that as soon as you spot it, you know it is his. It is unique in its charming style and stands out amongst the crowd. One place where there are constant crowds is an airport and where else better to expose your craft than London's Heathrow. This is exactly what Clym Everden is doing as he has forged a creative collaboration with the international travel hub along with the charity, Oxfam. Clym has designed a range of limited edition festive gift boxes, gift wrap and bags for Heathrow's complimentary gift wrapping service. Launching today, it is a perfect idea for when you are rushing off somewhere for Christmas and need a last minute gift with an added thoughtful touch.

In Conversation with Clym Everden

I caught up with Clym Everden to have a chat about this clever collaboration, his successful career as an artist and what inspires him to create his work on various platforms.

How/where did you first start your career in illustration? Which of your first projects still stand out in your memory?

“I’ve always drawn ever since I can remember. However it became more of a professional thing when I created artwork for school posters. My first major commission, and therefore the first one that stands out in memory was when I was asked to provide monthly illustrations for Harpers Bazaar while I was at university.”

In Conversation with Clym Everden

How would you best describe your style of illustration? Was your distinctive style something that took a long time to create?

“My style of illustration is typified by a strong loose ink line. I mainly draw freehand rather than using a computer so my work has a spontaneous and intuitive energy. I think my line’s always had a consistent character to it, although it progressed to how it appears now when I started using brush and ink rather than harder materials such as chalk and crayon.”

What is the hardest part of being a freelance illustrator?

“Working for myself I have to create my own schedule and be disciplined as to when I work, when to exercise, take a holiday etc. I’ve learned that it’s important to take time out from work as at times my schedule can be all consuming. So being disciplined with my time is always a challenge.”

Where do you look for your inspiration?

“My inspiration comes from everyday life. I’m naturally always observing and taking in visual information, which informs my work. I’ve learnt that it’s beneficial for me to have time out simply to sit in a cafe or go for a walk to feed my visual experience. In a more abstract sense I find music very inspiring, I can relate to the energy and environment a track can create. I’m particularly into electronic music, and the moment I'm listening to Lady Dandy and Floating Points.”

In Conversation with Clym Everden

I really like the way you show your work on Instagram. Do you see it as a useful way to expose yourself as an artist?

“Instagram has been a vital asset to my progression as a professional illustrator. I think it’s modern to show a constant evolving ‘work flow’ rather than a static website, so in this way Instagram is the perfect portfolio. It’s a fun and immediate way of showing what my latest project is and new avenues in my work.”

You studied at Central Saint Martins and you have previously worked as a model. Obviously this has led to your work being mainly fashion focused. Is fashion one of your main passions? What are your other passions?

“I studied BA womenswear at Central Saint Martins so yes I have always been interested in fashion. However I have many interests, mainly music which I find very inspiring for my work. Like fashion, music is constantly evolving at a rapid pace. I love researching new releases in Soho record shops such as Sounds of the Universe and Phonica Records.”

You have created works for various platforms, which has been your favourite?

“I was very proud to create the first illustrated animation for Net-A-Porter.com which launched Net-A-Sporter and featured a woman engaging in different sports and activities in one fluid time line of motion. This was the first time my ink line came to life so it was a thrilling moment.”

In Conversation with Clym Everden

What drew you to working with Heathrow?

“I love to travel, and Heathrow is my favourite London airport. There’s something exciting about the anticipation before a flight, so I was thrilled to create artwork which will enhance the experience for travellers during the Holiday season. Heathrow boasts many revered fashion brands such as Burberry and Prada, so I was excited to design gift wrap and boxes to conceal what will no doubt be a selection of extremely desirable gifts. It was a pleasure to create a limited edition artwork exclusively for a world renowned airport.”

Can you tell us more about the project?

“It was exciting to create artwork for something which would be seen by so many people passing through Heathrow Airport. I love how the wrapping paper and packaging will then go on to have a life elsewhere in the world and be experienced and enjoyed by a wave of present recipients. And hopefully people will reuse the printed boxes and bags so the artwork will live on into 2016.”

How did the idea come together for the design?

“I wanted to create a scene which would encapsulate a feeling of joy and the anticipation of seeing loved ones during the Holiday season. I aimed for the design to have a slightly humorous element which would make people smile, so I introduced the two small dogs. It was important for me that the overall composition had an appealing contained symmetry so that it would work well as a repeat. The arc of the aeroplane’s vapour trail helps frame the composition.”

What do you think your next step forward is with illustration?

“I see myself as an artist and art director rather than an illustrator. I’m always striving to create work which leaves the page in some way, whether it be animation or set design. In 2016 I’m hoping to launch a product line.”

End of a Print Era for Lads Mags

End of a Print Era for Lads Mags

It seems that the lads' magazine faces an inescapable fall, as FHM and Zoo have been announced to close down by some major publishing houses, including Condé Nast. Advertisers rush to withdraw money from the print business, so that even the most prominent publishers are trimming down the number of their publications to focus on a catalogue-like experience for the fashion audience. GQ, the crown-jewel of Condé Nast is expected to double its Style publication to consolidate and retain the revenue of the fashion advertisers.

End of a Print Era for Lads Mags

“Consumers love the magazine. It’s not fair or right.” The apologetic words of Condé Nast's CEO frame the situation rather well. Beautiful women and expensive gadgets are now just as attractive to men as they ever have been, but not on paper, thank you. I dare to say that even the stalwart readers would agree that gent’s magazines are picture friendly and text-shy. The likes of FHM and Zoo were sure to be the first victims of the digitalization, because their low-IQ content is simply so much better looking on a touch screen.

End of a Print Era for Lads Mags

Futurists and TED speakers have been announcing the end of print journalism for some time now. However, the fact that male magazines are being shut down with such a sense of resoluteness says much less about the future of journalism than it might seem. The move to a digital format is an inevitable trend, but the words will not disappear. In men’s fashion, for instance, a whole row of very capable online journals have emerged in the recent years, as men enjoy and genuinely want to learn and read about the rules of dressing. The likes of our very own MenswearStyle have proven to combine the helpful with the enjoyable. Short guides with some good looking pictures is a combination which inspires and brings the reader back and by doing so becomes a perfect form of journalism - useful and free.

End of a Print Era for Lads Mags

Making predictions usually requires a fair amount of arrogance, yet I dare to say that online fashion journals are a good compass of where the future of journalism is heading in 2016.

Party Season Retro Glamour

The glitter, glamour and decadence of the 1970s inspires party wear this season for F&F. The impressive winter 2015 collection of menswear blurs the boundary between formal and casual for the infamous party season – meaning guys can feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the day and into the night without looking overly or underdressed. It’s all about creating a balance of smart with casual and mixing the luxe with the everyday – an individual’s understated and simple response to the party season dress code and F&F have captured this superbly. Classic tuxedo jackets are somehow combined with smart denim and luxury knit pieces for a modern take on an evening look.

Party Season Retro Glamour

“With slim silhouettes and creative fabrics I’m increasingly impressed with the F&F menswear offering each season. Many Christmas parties are straight after work so it's often not practical to be sat in the office with a full tuxedo all day. These outfits are spot on for what the average male will feel comfortable wearing for an office festive party. F&F are proving that great style doesn’t need to be overly expensive and can be achieved on a budget.”– Craig Landale, Editor-in-Chief

Party Season Retro Glamour

Camel knitwear and wool blend blazers are key statements referencing the laidback elegance of the 70s era. The colour palette is classic – plenty of black, midnight, white, silver and camel shades with the autumnal tones of amber, gold and smokey blue adding richness to the materials. Texture is also key with tweedy wool blends and cosy oversized knit pieces with a hand knitted feel and appearance. The oversized scarf in a grey check pattern is a team favourite here at MWS and will add a real sense of sartorial style to almost any smart casual outfit combination you create. Another favourite, the grey wool overcoat is probably the most discreet statement piece of the season, but a must-have for everyday wear to battle the chilling winter elements in style.

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

It has finally happened. Winter is here. The weather has changed and that means we need to alter our wardrobes to cope with these crisp mornings and chilly evenings. It is time to layer up over your shirts with possibly a nice cashmere jumper for work, or perhaps a nice tailored coat for all occasions. Of course footwear is also extremely important when it comes to warmth. Those flimsy trainers aren't going to do you any favours in the next coming months! John Lewis have a great winter selection for you men and MWS has picked out 10 pieces from the retailer's Winter Warmers edit that will easily cover you for all eventualities. Some of them could also make a great Christmas present idea for yourself or a family member. Time to drop a few hints!

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

The North Face 1985 Sherpa Mountain Waterproof Jacket

If you happen to be taking some nice country walks with a hound in tow over the festive period, this jacket will be perfect for those drizzly days. With its Sherpa lining and waxed cotton waterproof exterior, this will keep you completely dry and very warm. This is a really stylish mountain jacket and is available in two colour ways; navy and ink green.

Ted Baker Camroon Suede Chelsea Boots

With the festive season upon us, your diaries will be rapidly filling up with invitations to various parties, along with potential dinners with the in-laws! If you need to impress then these smart chelsea boots are ideal. Perfectly understated with a sleek and clean-cut fit, they offer a casual laid-back look but still keep it classy. Perfect with dark jeans and a crisp shirt.

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

Gant Lambswool Cable Knit Cardigan

If you are a man comfortable in sporting a cardigan, then this cardigan is perfect for this season. The cable knit gives it added texture and the shawl neckline will keep your neck warm under a jacket. This is a cardigan that can be dressed up or warn casually with jeans. The suede patches on the elbows give added detail.

John Lewis Pure Cashmere Epsom Overcoat

This coat really is a luxurious investment piece and why not treat yourself for the festive season! Along with the sharp and crisp lines of this elegant coat, I find camel to be a very flattering colour for men. Perfect to wear to work or throw on for a smart occasion at the weekend. As it is 100% cashmere this coat is light in weight, so it will carry you through to Spring but will also keep you very warm in the winter. A really beautiful coat.

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

Timberland 6" Icon Premium Leather Boots

Looking for a pair of robust boots for the winter? You can't really go wrong with these classic Timberlands. These will take you through all weather conditions and will keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable. Timberlands are extremely durable so will no doubt remain in your wardrobe for future winter seasons.

Kin by John Lewis Birdseye Geometric Knit Lambswool Blend Jumper

If you aren't really a fan of the full-on Christmas jumper adorned with bells and tinsel... but still want that festive feel, then this jumper is a really nice option with its geometric print. A great jumper if you want to step away from the usual plain navy worn for work and it will keep you toasty in the pub whilst catching a few glances.

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

John Lewis & Co Made in England Merino Cable Knit Jumper

As part of their 'heritage' collection, this is a heavy knitted jumper that is made to last. This is designed to be snug so if you want a looser fit, go for a larger size. It comes in navy or cream but I personally think the navy will look great over any pair of jeans for a casual classic look.

John Lewis Pull Cord Suede Gloves

To add a bit of luxury to your winter wardrobe, then why not try some suede gloves, instead of the usual knitted ones. These are actually knitted on the inside to add some extra warmth. With the pull cord they will fit nice and snug around the hands. Can definitely recommend spraying these with a suede protection product before using though.

Our 10 Pick John Lewis Winter Warmers

John Lewis Slub Boot Socks

These socks will fit perfectly into any walking boot. Consisting of thick robust cotton, there won't be any signs of any holes anytime soon! Ideal socks to pack for a weekend rural getaway where you can put your feet up in front of a roaring log fire, without any embarrassment!

John Lewis Made in Italy Cashmere Scarf

The best way to stay warm is to invest in some cashmere accessories. You won’t want to go a day without one of these cosy Italian cashmere scarves. Available in a variety of colours and at a reasonable price, it will also make a fantastic gift. I personally like the plum or charcoal.

Reiss AW15 Perfect Partywear

A season of celebrations is nearly upon us. Reiss this season are offering perfect partywear inspiration through their recent campaign ‘One Fine Night’ which brings autumn/winter 2015’s occasionwear to life. The lessons for the season are that there’s much to be said for the classics; faithful to the original design their black tuxedo is both familiar and fresh. A white bow tie offers top-tier formality, the epitome of evening elegance.

Reiss AW15 Perfect Partywear

Meanwhile powerful printed velvet blazers worn in shades of the darkest blue add a subtle flair to an evening look. Other options include a double-breasted tuxedo in midnight blue which gives the men’s eveningwear classic a natty new twist. Not to be forgotten, outerwear plays a key part in the perfect winter 2015 partywear look.

Reiss AW15 Perfect Partywear

"This season men should make the effort when dressing for social occasions. If the girls are going to go the extra mile, then pulling on an old work suit and black tie combo isn’t going to cut it anymore. It’s the ideal time of year to play with texture and fabrication, so consider velvet blazers, slub silks or jacquard patterns to add interest to the top half of your outfit. Pair them with simple black suit trousers, but if you’re feeling a little braver they’ll also work well with satin striped tuxedo trousers. Remember, in dim light both shiny and matt fabrics will catch the light differently offering subtle points of interest – experiment with contrasting textures and materials. When it comes to bow ties, this season it will pay off to go for larger, fuller designs. Not only will they add a slightly dishevelled, hand-tied and personal appearance to formal outfits, they’re a much more debonair alternative to small, flat bow ties which seem to be so common come occasion season." - Alex Field, Head of Menswear Design.

Reiss AW15 Perfect Partywear

The wool overcoat is a staple of the season, but when adding a faux fur trim it becomes utterly indispensable. Rendered in a lighter hue and updated with surprising design details, for party season the camel coat comes of age this season. Instead of styling a shirt and tie as the first port of call for formal events, a roll neck jumper makes for a dapper and sophisticated alternative. Claret, burgundy, wine. Call it what you will, this deep hue makes excellent occasionwear fodder.

Reiss AW15 Perfect Partywear

Alex goes on to explain why"It’s important to invest in the finishing touches (think patent black shoes or dress slippers) to really elevate your outfit and make it look like you haven’t just tweaked your work outfit. I always like to reference the classics for failsafe style. In Casablanca Humphrey Bogart immortalised his character’s style with the simple addition of a carnation in the button hole of his tuxedo jacket. The look has even been revitalised this season by Daniel Craig in Spectre. In a sea of black suits, add a little personality and flair with something as simple as cufflinks, shirt studs or a small flower. These additions will still feel suitably formal and reference some of the greatest men’s style icons.”

Accent Clothing Open Bradford Store

Family-owned, Leeds-based company Accent Clothing has launched a new store in Bradford’s Westfield commercial development: The Broadway Bradford. The fashion brand's new store was launched on the 5th of November with the help of X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Accent Clothing Open Bradford Store

Accent celebrated its 30th birthday last year, and a second store in a second city was a big next step for them. The Broadway Bradford store allows Accent to build on their already loyal Leeds customer base and to spread out further into Yorkshire. Along with the original Leeds-based store, residing in Queens Arcade, Accent also boasts a successful online store that sells designer jeans and other clothing to customers all over the world.

Accent Clothing Open Bradford Store

Accent has racked up 31 years’ experience helping people find designer clothes that match their own sense of style and personality. Fostering close relationships with customers is a large part of Accent’s ethos. The retailer has followed through on its original promise, which was to provide its customers with the highest-quality designer clothes with an intimate, unrivalled service. And as Accent was originally predicated on providing only the best clothes for its customers, it has accumulated an impressive range of top designer brands, such as Replay, Matchless, Grenson, and Belstaff.

Accent Clothing Open Bradford Store

The brand-new store in Bradford follows on from the Leeds store and is dedicated to helping customers reap the benefits of Accent’s three decades of denim expertise. Accent hopes that providing a Bradford store will reward loyal clients living in Bradford, making it as easy as possible for them to shop for top designer denim brands. Martin Schneider, director at Accent Clothing, spoke of his company’s excitement over the launch of the new store:

“Since our inception in 1984 we’ve worked hard to deliver the very best in designer wear and we’re excited to showcase our unique customer service alongside our global brands to the people of Bradford."

Accent Clothing Open Bradford Store

Between the Bradford and Leeds stores, Accent boasts the largest range of designer jeans in the UK, and their signature denim wall is a must-see for any denim enthusiast. Supporting Shinola Makers Monday

Supporting Shinola Makers Monday

I really am a massive admirer of Shinola, not only because of the quality of their beautiful leather products and watches, but because of the story behind the company and their work ethos. We have frequently featured their products on MWS but Shinola have now created a concept where they are focusing on other local brands. Shinola are striving to turn what was known as 'Cyber Monday' into 'Makers Monday' and it is taking place today (30th November). They are encouraging consumers to forget the 'Cyber Monday' culture and look closer to home.

Supporting Shinola Makers Monday

The key point about Makers Monday is to support local craftsmen across the globe. Shinola are very much about promoting themselves as a wholly American brand and stress the massive importance of the economy in Detroit. They have managed to bring manufacturing back to the American city which makes their story a truly fascinating one. Due to their success, they want to persuade other nations to invest in homegrown talent and are asking for consumers to invest in British products on Monday. To qualify to be included on the list of craftsmen featured in this campaign, each business must manufacture over 50% of their goods locally.

Supporting Shinola Makers Monday

Shinola have a specific associated website makersmonday.com, particularly for this day, where you can check out various local artisans in the UK and the story behind what they make. Shinola as a company really focus on the community of people behind their brand as they are the reason they have achieved what they have done in the last few years. They want the consumer to get to know the faces that create the product and therefore the website has a full biography available of each business. Have a look at Bellerby & Co who hand make traditional globes, a surprisingly challenging and unique craft! There is also London based brand, Made by 680, who specialise in super stylish, mid-century modern furniture.

Supporting Shinola Makers Monday

Not only will you be able to discover brands online but you are also able to meet them face to face in store. Live demonstrations will be taking place today in Shinola's first London store on Newburgh Street. If you haven't been to their store yet, this is the perfect excuse to pop in and take a look.

Introducing Mr Jenks

Introducing Mr Jenks

Some of you stylish readers may be familiar with this brand– in particular their Instagram but we’d like to share some more information about them with you. Mr. Jenks is an Irish based online store specialising in 100% Silk and 100% linen Pocket Squares. They're new players to the Pocket Square scene but they definitely have a lot to add. They pride themselves on providing luxurious products that stand out from the crowd. With their Rolled Hemmed Edges, 100% Silk and wide range of designs, there’s not many others that can offer the same level Pocket Squares as Mr. Jenks.

Introducing Mr Jenks

Another thing we love about Mr. Jenks is their patterns and designs - they have a wide range from Polka Dot to Floral and Paisley to Plain, so something to fit everyone's tastes. The Patterns you will see on these pocket squares are traditional patterns with a modern day twist which illustrates sophistication and elegance. In comparison to trend patterns, you can be sure that one by this brand will remain stylish for many years. We love the Black and Gold Paisley Pocket Square for the winter/festive season, it’s something that catches attention and really adds that extra finishing touch.

Introducing Mr Jenks

Mr. Jenks’ Pocket Squares have an exclusive high class look about them (yet priced under £25) and we absolutely love sporting their styles in formal outfits. We’ve played around with different folds and have created many looks e.g. a day in the office or an after work event. Apparently we aren’t the only ones as there’s many recent Irish Fashion Bloggers posting about them too. We would definitely recommend investing in one, it’s almost certain to become one of your formal wardrobe staples.

Introducing Mr Jenks

How do you wear it?

You’re not the only guy to be unsure of how to fold one so don’t panic! Mr. Jenks have a step by step guide to folding on their website and they've also created a video to show you how it’s done. Depending on your occasion you will simply choose a certain fold and it's likely you'll find and stick with a favourite. Our advice for this would be to have a play around and eventually you’ll decide which fold is for you.

Introducing Mr Jenks

One thing that really stood out for us was the way Mr. Jenks package their Pocket Squares. We were pleasantly surprised when the delivery arrived and was different to the standard cardboard box. The Pocket Square was folded in tissue paper then sealed in a box with a wax stamp! Yes, that’s right – a wax stamp! What other way to scream sophistication that sealing a package like that. We loved it, it was such a unique classic finishing touch.

The Rise of Trapstar London

The Rise of Trapstar London

The rise of Trapstar from the back streets of London, to being stocked in Selfridges has been a steady one. I remember when Trapstar and their peers in the London urban and streetwear market, like VA-G and Benjart, first started making waves within the cool kids’ circuit in London Town. I won't lie to you, I thought they were all flash in the pans, but boy was I wrong. They've gone from strength to strength. None more so than Trapstar.

The Rise of Trapstar London

Having the likes of Chris Brown, Cara Delevingne, Fabolos, Rita Ora and Bad gal Riri (who also collaborated on a capsule collection called She X Trapstar) wear your clothes can do nothing but elevate your brand, but it was meeting legendary rapper and business mogul Jay Z and his investment into the label, that catapulted things. The partnership had opened doors for the London brand. Retailing in the likes of Harvey Nichols after earlier resistance from retailers, going on to launch premium line The Red Mark and having a trainer made with Puma, Trapstar are set for world domination.

The Rise of Trapstar London

Their next stop on the quest for world domination, was New York, where the Trapstar London “Invasion for Peace” USA launch of the A/W 15 collection took place on the 20th of last month. Celebs and fashion lovers like Angela Simmons, Justine Skye, Brittany Sky, Luka Sabbat and BMX star Nigel Sylvester were all present. The models were of the highest caliber with the likes of Dudley O’Shaughnessy and Willy Cartier tasked to wear their clothes.

The Rise of Trapstar London

Those clothes were just as cool as the people present. Prints and texture were all over the collection - clashing together in a perfect symphony. All the pieces had elements of battle wear, pulled from ancient Greek gladiators, the Russian military and from the US Air Force. The khaki green aviator jacket with the shearling fur collar was a particular favourite of mine. Trapstar London were truly war ready - invading with style and peace. They excellently signified the war theme and the use of flags, with performers and models holding the flags of their home countries.

The Rise of Trapstar London

At a time of low tolerance and hate for the “other” it was a timely and poignant touch, it’s great seeing home-grown labels really take off. Having the eyes of those who matter on them. Trapstar will be sold across the US in many boutiques and will be available in the US online starting 30th November 2015.
